Dan Jakes is a Chicago-based theater critic, travel writer, and podcast producer. Covering performing arts with the Chicago Reader since 2010, his freelance work has appeared in The A.V. Club, Time Out, The Takeout, and Frommer's.

He writes about stand-up comedy, queer culture, black box theater, mass transit, and alternative destinations.

Dan is a National Critics Institute Fellow with the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and is a Peter Lisagor Award nominee from the Chicago Headline Club.

He holds a BFA from the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign.
