Bus Tours -- Organized tours operate according to demand. Many are conducted at least three times a week during the winter, with fewer departures in summer. A typical 4-hour tour costs $28 per person. Tours usually go through Christiansted and include visits to the botanical gardens, Whim Estate House, the rum distillery, the rainforest, the St. Croix LEAP mahogany workshop, and the site of Columbus's landing at Salt River. Check with your hotel desk, or call Travellers' Tours, Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (tel. 340/778-1636), for more information.
Taxi Tours -- Many visitors explore St. Croix on a taxi tour (tel. 340/778-1088), which, for a party of two, costs about $120 for 3 hours. The fare should be negotiated in advance. Extra fees are charged for the following sights: $10 for the botanical gardens, $10 for the Whim Estate House, and $8 for the rum distillery. Taxi tours are far more personalized than bus tours; you can get on and off where you want and stay as long or as little as you wish at a destination.
Walking Tours -- For a guided walking tour of either Christiansted or Frederiksted, contact St. Croix House Tours (tel. 340/772-0598). The tour of Christiansted is available upon request, leaves at 9:30am, and costs $30 per person. The Frederiksted tour leaves on Wednesday at 9:30am, and costs $30 per person. Call for details and to arrange meeting places. Tours are given only in February and March.
