It’s hard to beat the Hirschen for location, which is at the heart of the fashionable Niederdorf district. It’s also well priced and full of character—it's been a guesthouse since the 14th century, making it one of the city’s oldest hotels. Today’s simple, family-run hotel is kept in good repair, and although the rooms are pint-sized, they are bright and functional without being generic, with crisp white bed linens. Some feature exposed ancient stonework. and one of the rooms has its own private roof terrace. In the basement is a wine cellar, the Weinschenke, with an excellent selection of Swiss and international wines.
