Hugging the eastern bank of the Touques River is Deauville’s less fashionable—but no less fascinating—neighbor Trouville-sur-Mer. Deauville might have the chic boutiques, but Trouville has the soul of a working fishing port. Cross the Touques at the Pont des Belges (a short 10 to 15 min. walk) and you immediately see the change in atmosphere. The large fish market, Marché aux Poissons, is a hive of activity and teems with small cafes selling the freshest seafood. More restaurants line the quayside, which becomes even livelier every Wednesday and Sunday when the open-air food market sets up its stalls.
