The second Toronto outpost of the Quebec-based boutique hotel chain Le Germain has doubled down on its sporty, Scotiabank Arena–adjacent location. Designer Lemay Michaud’s jock-approved theme is palpable in the corridors (accent lights locked to the home team’s colors). Inside the rooms, the sports motif is still subtly present: Above every bed hangs photographer Matthew Plexman’s gigantic black-and-white prints of muscled Leaf and Raptor players working out. The bedrooms are inviting and bright, fitted with ultra-soft bamboo-cotton sheets and featuring waterfall showerheads and sumptuous beds. The brand’s flair is evident throughout, although the look is more postindustrial, with painted concrete walls and balconies. It’s a perfect location for anyone with tickets to the big game (some rooms even face a giant screen over the Scotiabank Arena’s entrance), but if you’re not a fan, the frenetic game-time energy here might not be for you. Le Germain is particularly excellent at catering to families, providing pint-sized guests with everything from miniature robes to stuffed animals and bath toys. Tip: If you find a lower rate online, contact the hotel and they'll pledge to beat that rate by 10 percent.
