Frommer's Review
Just inside the medina and practically next door to the American Legation Museum is one of Tangier's premier maisons d'hôte. Behind the thick, green door is a peaceful, covered courtyard with a rose petal-strewn fountain, tadelakt and zellij interior, and bejmat floor. Steps lead up to the restaurant and past a small patio to the rooms, all with the same tadelakt, zellij, and bejmat combination. Room Petit Socco lives up to its name by being a bit on the small side, while the large El Minzah suite can easily accommodate two adults and a child. Individually furnished, some rooms come with day beds, small libraries set in wall niches, and medina views. The views from the rooftop terrace are even better, looking across to the port and into the Bay of Tangier. This is a true medina maison d'hôte in both its levels of superior, personal service (provided by the mostly young and very personable staff), and the little quirks that come with its location. It's in a very old corner of the city, and some rooms look out onto the busy corner of rue Salah Eddine al Ayoubi and rue du Portugal, where taxis wait for business and fresh produce and seafood are sold in the covered fondouk.
