The City Suites have the serenity—and carefully curated minimalism—of a Japanese rock garden. In fact, I’d say the ambiance here is far more Japanese than Chinese, from the use of slate and natural materials to the hushed-if-gracious service. The lobby is grand, the rooms less so, marked by pleasant if unremarkable blond wood furnishings and lots of tan and taupe. Still, this is an elegant, restful atmosphere, and it is particularly well-suited to business people who will want the services and the impressive lobby in which to meet clients. There’s also a small gym.
