Both restaurants in the Eden Rock hotel have smashing settings. On the Rocks—literally atop St. Barts' famed Rock—is practically up in the clouds, with a wide-angle panorama of blue sea and sky. The Sand Bar, on the other hand, is right down on the beach, with its feet solidly planted in the sugary St-Jean sand. The menus for both restaurants are overseen by star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, which gives the food some upmarket version of the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval—or at least raises expectations commensurate with the global superstardom of a celebrity chef. Luckily, even though it's unlikely you'll find Jean-Georges hovering in the kitchen stirring the pots, his influences and attention to detail have been baked into the sauce, as it were—you will eat very well at either restaurant (and pay dearly to do so). Lunch at Sand Bar on one of those languid, sun-spangled beach days is pure heaven. The food is light, fresh, and delicious, including watermelon gazpacho, lobster salad, salmon sashimi with avocado, and a ricotta-filled ravioli in a roasted-cherry-tomato marinara sauce. Lemongrass-scented grilled fish, crispy-crusted pizza, and roasted local lobster come out of the wood-fired oven. Sunday brunch is devoted to breakfast classics like buttermilk pancakes, cinnamon French toast, and omelettes.
