Which movie star will spend the night with you? That’s the come-on at the Astoria 7, a snazzy contemporary hotel in the building that once held San Sebastián’s first multiplex cinema. Developers decided to play to that strength, so the entire hotel is themed to classic films. Each room is named for an actor, actress, or director, and there’s a small cinema in the basement that screens films every night. The beautiful lobby library is replete with coffee table cinema books, film critiques in a dozen languages, and an extensive collection of DVDs you can check out and watch in your room. The neighborhood seems rather removed from the beach scene, but it’s a quick bus ride to the Kursaal complex, where most film festival movies are screened. Rooms are modern and spacious, and even kind of glamorous. The city bus station is a 3-minute walk away.
