Repostería Kasalta is one of the best examples of the eponymous pandarerias across San Juan. These Spanish bakeries/delicatessens have cold cuts and Serrano hams, wonderful cheeses, roasted peppers, ceviches, big breakfast sandwiches, and fresh baked pan de agua and pastries. Kasalta's sandwiches—from the Cubano (roast pork, sweet ham, Swiss cheese and pickles, and mustard) to the beefsteak with arugula, tomato, and Gruyere—are among the finest in the city, and so is its caldo gallego soup. The Spanish entrees and tapas are top notch, and the fresh baked bread and pastries are among the tastiest in San Juan. President Barack Obama's quick stop here with Gov. Alejadro Garcia Padilla is immortalized with photos and a presidential special.
