For years this downtown hotel was the place to stay in San Antonio (or get married or have Fiesta balls), and a recent impeccable renovation has restored its reputation as the crown jewel of Alamo City. Although the lobby is formally elegant, with glittering chandeliers, plush peacock-green carpet, and white marble walls, guest rooms and restaurants are sleekly contemporary and even a tad trendy. Rebelle feels almost too hip; its mod furniture and changing colored lights work great at dinner, but the glam decor can seem a bit much at breakfast. The chic rooftop infinity pool and well-equipped fitness center contrast with the Haunt bar, where cocktails are named after the purported resident ghosts (who wouldn’t be caught dead on an elliptical trainer). Another plus: A prime location on Travis Park—far from the crowds, but close to the River Walk and state-of-the-art Tobin Theater.
