As one of the finest art schools in the country, the Rhode Island School of Design has a reputation to uphold here. But far from restricting its scope to, say, modern and contemporary works, the collection encompasses a wide range of fine and decorative arts: an Egyptian mummy, Japanese prints, a huge 12th-century Buddha, Goddard and Townsend furniture, Renaissance and Baroque works, 18th- and 19th-century American paintings, and paintings by French Impressionists, Picasso, and Warhol, to name a few. It's a splendid place in which to wile away two hours or so.
