Behind the azulejo-covered facade of an 18th-century, five-story building (on the delightful Rua de Flores, see. p. ###) lies a different type of accommodation. Besides regular rooms, the hotel has suites and self-catering apartments for up to eight people, making it ideal for families. Opened in 2014, rooms cluster around a sunny urban garden. Many have huge windows and balconies over the street that look across to the towers of the cathedral on the opposite hilltop. Common areas include salons with Baroque ceiling paintings and tasteful furnishings; and an exceptional spa with a Roman-style bath sunk among the foundations.
