Visitor Information -- The national park (www.np-plitvicka-jezera.hr; tel. 053/751-015) has two entrances, Ulaz 1 and Ulaz 2, each of which has a tourist info office, gift shop, and snack shop. Both entrances are open daily 7am–7pm (mid-Apr to mid-Sept) and 9am–4pm (mid-Oct to mid-Apr). Tickets are 185kn (Jul–Aug); 110kn (Apr–May and Sept–Oct) and 55kn (Nov–Mar) per person. There are reduced rates for children and seniors. There is also a separate Plitvice Tourism Office (www.tzplitvice.hr; tel. 053/776-798) in Korenica at Trg Sveti Jurja 6 for further information.
Getting There -- Plitvice is on the old road (E71) between Split and Zagreb, but you don't need a car because almost every town and hotel in the country either runs tours or connects visitors with tours that include Plitvice.
By Car -- To get to Plitvice by car from Zagreb (trip time about 2 hr.), take the Zagreb-Rieka autocesta to Karlovac. From there, follow the signs to Plitvice via the old road to Split (E71).
By Bus -- Thre are several buses per day from the main bus station in Zagreb (2 1/2 hr.). You can check schedules online at www.akz.hr, but you should visit the bus station at Avenue Marin Držića 4 to make a reservation or get a ticket. Make sure your bus stops at Plitvice and that it doesn't take the new highway and bypass the park on the way to Split.
Getting Around -- The best place to begin your tour is at Ulaz 2 (Entrance 2), as this puts you in the middle of the property and gives you more options for exploring. Ulaz 2 is also the site of the park’s hotels for travelers who want to stay near the park and weren't lured by the ubiquitous sobe (“rooms”) signs on the roads leading to and from Plitvice.
