The storied Waldorf brand's first foray into Latin America is this stately glass tower in the heart of Panama City's thriving entertainment district. High ceilings and off-white marble touched with splashes of gold, bronze, and silver bring a sophistication Panama City has yet to see in the flashier Trump Ocean Club or Casco Viejo boutique hotels. Check-in takes place in a palatial ground floor lobby, which comes complete with a Peacock Alley lounge like the one in New York. For many visitors, the next stop is the 7th-floor terrace, which is anchored by a pool and Jacuzzi that stare out towards the Bay of Panama (a few apartment buildings obscure much of the ocean view). The rooms are just as plush as the New York original, with 600-thread-count sheets, Ferragamo bath products, and pillow menus. Aside from the pool bar, with its excellent Panamanian-style mojitos, there are two fine restaurants, one a casual international bistro and the other a sushi spot.
