Perhaps the most happening hotel in the city, Tantalo has helped usher in a new era in Casco. The property attracts a cool crowd of local hipsters and foreign jet setters, who now come to the city to soak up culture, rather than just to make a deal. Each of Tantalo's boho-chic rooms has a different theme and is decorated by a different artist. Nocturne, for instance, is an ode to Charles Bukowski, with documentary photography and quotes about night, romance, and darkness. Insulated with old phone books and newspapers, the hotel goes out of its way to be green, including using recycled plastic as potters on a green wall that's watered with reclaimed rainwater from the lounge skylight. The great house restaurant, with two long communal tables, serves eclectic tapas-style dishes. The rooftop bar, Encima, occasionally has live music and is one of the best hangouts in Casco.
