Though somewhat off the main tourist track, these two side-by-side museums have an unexpected charm. The venerable Natural History Museum shows off a good collection of dinosaur skeletons and other curiosities in a marvelous glass-roofed Victorian hall. The Pitt Rivers Museum, presents an oft-freakish blend of folk art and anthropology—think shrunken heads and bundles of poisoned arrows brought back by British explorers over hundreds of years. It is, to use an academic term, totally gnarly.
