"Painted Lady” is not a hostess, but the name given to brightly colored Victorian houses like the one that hosts this excellent restaurant in downtown Newberg. The menu makes creative use of local and seasonal Willamette Valley meat, vegetables, and fruits, and Pacific Ocean seafood. Halibut might be crusted with valley hazelnuts (long a local crop), gnocchi might be served with foraged wild mushrooms, locally grown rabbit might be accompanied by a purée of squash and cauliflower from a nearby farm, and a delicious cheesecake dessert might come with blueberry compote. Wines from local vineyards are featured, of course. Advance reservations are a must.
