The oldest apothecary shop in the nation (it was founded in 1838), Bigelow has become known for its huge range of beauty supplies, carrying European and Japanese products that aren’t available anywhere else in the U.S. Some of the products are quite unusual (like “frownies,” an 1800s stick [‘]em on cure for frown lines that claims to train the wrinkles to go in another direction as you sleep). Even if you don’t need to buy, stop by to browse under the Victorian gas chandeliers (converted to electric, but still lovely).
