Founded way back in 1824, Pasticceria Marchesi is Milan's most revered chocolatier, serving classy hand-made confectionery alongside puffy meringues, elegant pastries, and extravagantly decorated tortes. The marble pillars, glass display cases, and brass-topped counters may be original, but Marchesi has marched with time, and new taste combinations and designs pour out of the kitchens daily. As befits any self-respecting Italian institution, there is a tiny bar serving espresso and delicious hot chocolate. If you have a sweet tooth, then this place is just about as close to heaven as it's possible to get.
