The Melbourne Aquarium’s prize exhibit is an Antarctica display featuring King and Gentoo penguins playing in the pool (with underwater viewing) and sliding across the snow-covered ice. The 20 beguiling birds are Australia’s only collection of sub-Antarctic penguins. The aquarium also features a reef exhibit, some jellyfish displays, and a 2.2-million-liter (581,000-gallon) Oceanarium walk-through tank with larger fish, sharks, and rays. Dive-feeding demonstrations are held at 11am and 2pm. You can also arrange to dive with the sharks (A$210 for qualified divers, A$299 for nondivers; must be 15 years or older). Bookings are essential; call tel. 03/9510 9081.
