While other South American cities such as Lima, Bogotá, and Buenos Aires are undergoing a gastronomic revolution, La Paz is well behind. There are just a few high-end eateries, mostly in the ritzier Zona Sur. Street food in La Paz is good, found everywhere, and relatively safe. Look for salteñas (baked turnovers filled with chicken or beef and egg and onion), which can also be found in specialty shops all over the city. For coffee, try Alexander Coffee, at Av. 20 de Octubre 2463, or Café Blueberries, at Av. 20 de Octubre 2475, both in Sopacachi.
