This appealingly low-key resort lives up to its ideal beachfront location, where the western horizon sees a riot of color at sunset and rainbows arc over a rocky point after the occasional shower. The oceanfront pool—with rock-lined whirlpool and luxurious bungalows and cabanas (for rent)—provides an inviting place for a dip, conveniently making the traditional pool in the Mauka garden wing a quieter oasis. Nights here are lively, too, thanks to large fire pits in the oceanview courtyard and the tasty libations and wine-tasting social hours at RumFire Poipu Beach ★★, an ambitious, island-inspired restaurant/lounge with walls of glass. Tip: Ask for a room in the ocean wing, to avoid frequent street crossings; its rooms seem larger, too.
