For over 20 years, daMaurizio has been one of Halifax’s signature fine-dining experiences. Service is attentive and warm, and the meals are unusually satisfying, whether the preparation is somewhat rustic (like the excellent eggplant with prosciutto baked in tomato and béchamel sauce) or downright luxe (lobster ravioli in a truffle cream sauce—the height of decadence!). You’ll be awhile, so choose a wine to accompany the experience—there’s a vast but well-curated selection—and travel by taxi. The restaurant is located inside a cleverly adapted former brewery, its vast space divided into a complex of intimate hives with columns, exposed brick, fresh flowers on the tables, and dim lighting. A great place to head for a celebration.
