With parts dating from 1120, one of the oldest buildings in Freiburg claims to be the oldest inn in Germany. The vaulted cellar, some evocative stone work, and a smattering of antiques are faithful to the provenance, though the innkeepers have spared any attempt to be quaint in favor of plain contemporary decor in most rooms, and it’s a bit dated at that. High-ceilinged rooms in the orginal building have the most ambiance, and the best overlook a tranquil courtyard. Rooms in a new addition are stylish and nicely furnished in sleek contemporary style, but if it’s medieval atmosphere you’re after, ask for one of the more traditional rooms.
