About a 20-min. drive south of Dijon on the A31 is Nuits-St-Georges, world famous for its legendary wines such as Romanée-Conti. On the way into this sweet little town is “The Gentleman’s Residence,” a three-star family-run hotel and gourmet restaurant, Le Chef Coq, in a former hunting lodge surrounded by fields and forest. On the menu you’ll find the likes of partridge with beetroot and celery purée, and also blue shark steak with a preserved lemon; we particularly like the Campari sorbet with orange mousse for dessert. You’ll find top-quality local wines on the wine list and the “house” Kir is a must for an aperitif, next to the stone fireplace in winter. The contemporary-design rooms are in two separate 1980s blocks.
