Those looking for something super-cheap and clean and right near the plaza need look no further than Casa Grande, built atop the Palace of Inca Yupanqui. Housed in a 19th-century colonial house with original stonework, this is one of the last remaining family-run hostels near the plaza. Rooms surround a sunny cobblestone courtyard lined with wooden balconies. The accommodations are simple: The floors creak, the carpets are tired, and the only hot water you get is from electric shower heads, but the quirky space and friendly service is more than enough for many. Downstairs rooms don't get much light and can be dungeon-like, so be sure to reserve those on the second floor. Motorcyclists tend to flock here as they can park their bikes in the courtyard.
