Downtown Cancun's top business hotel is ensconced in a traditional hacienda-style 19th-century building, complete with arches and pillars, which add a dimension to an impressive if staid interior. Recent remodeling to enlarge guestrooms and bathrooms, install new beds, mattresses, and linens, and add smart TVs with plasma screens has made the third and fourth floors more sleek than sedate. The first and second floors got the same treatment during the 2014 low season, along with new paint throughout the hotel. The refresh, along with a circular, four-story onyx and teak lobby sporting a lively bar, and a large, sparkling pool set among palms, make the Radisson just as inviting for leisure travelers who don't need the bustle or high prices of the Hotel Zone. The property claims to be the only downtown hotel with a (distant) view of the ocean, but if you need sand in your toes, cover charge and transportation to the Mandala Beach Club in the Hotel Zone are free.
