The best beachfront hotel in Cahuita by a long shot, Playa Negra Guesthouse is set just across a dirt-and-sand lane from a quiet and palm-lined stretch of beach. The hotel has well-tended, exuberant gardens, rooms with lots of personality, and plantation-style cottages (love the art on the walls and the unusual bedspreads). A couple of these cottages—painted in Crayola colors and adorned with intricate gingerbread trim—come with full kitchens, making them ideal for families or those planning on an extended stay. Owners Pierre and Marise are always present to give advice and help in any way. No meals are served here, but several restaurants are within an easy walk, and the center of Cahuita is about 1.6km (1 mile) away.
