Located as it is on a busy two-lane road in western Bruges, your first impression of the Floris Karos may be that of being cut off from the center. But it's close to the railway and bus station, and a very short walk to t'Zand Square's restaurants and cafes as well as the concerts and other events held at Bruges's Concertgebouw (concert hall). The building, extensively renovated in 2011, is bright and modern, with plenty of space and an emphasis on amenities for families. An extensive ground floor has a pretty entrance lounge with a bar to one side and sofas and chairs in front of a fireplace on the other. Beyond that there's a well-equipped kids' area with an Xbox Kinect and DVDs, as well as a gym and a good-sized swimming pool—a rarity in Bruges. The 63 rooms are spread over four floors; a few must be reached by stairs, so check ahead if elevator access is important to you. For increased privacy, there are also rooms in a cottage annex that's across a small courtyard.
