For a virtuous, and highly “green” stay, head to this modestly priced, youth-oriented boutique hotel. Everything possible here is recycled, most of the lamps have energy-saving bulbs, and there’s no A/C (but there is heat in the winter). Local artists have put up installations in some of the common areas. As for the rooms, they’re far more style savvy than one usually gets in this price bracket, mixing cheerily colorful walls (think orange, acqua or deep red, off-set by white), 1960s-esque furniture created by the hotel’s designer (Sandra Ernst) and homey bric-a-brac for an added dash of personality. Rainfall showers in the bathrooms are another unexpected luxury. The on-site restaurant emphasizes local produce (it offers a generous breakfast buffet for 8€); guests gather there and in the lovely garden courtyard. Circus also operates a hostel right across the street from the hotel at Weinbergsweg 1A ([tel] 030/20-00-39-39) with 16 simple bedrooms, costing 29€ to 31€ for a dorm bed, 29€ to 43€ for a double.
