Arriving

By Train -- There is no direct train service from Lisbon to Valado dos Frades. From Lisbon take the train to Cacem, in Cacem take another train to Caldas da Rainha. In Caldas da Rainha, take the train to Valado dos Frades. The trip takes 3 1/2 hours and costs 10€.

By Bus -- From Nazaré, seven buses a day make the 1-hour trip to Batalha, with a change at Alcobaça; one-way tickets cost 3.75€. From Lisbon, six expresso buses operate daily; the trip lasts 2 hours and costs 9.30€ one-way.

By Car -- From Alcobaça, continue northeast along N8 for about 20 minutes.

Visitor Information

The Batalha Tourist Office is on Praça Mouzinho de Albuquerque (tel. 24/476-51-80). If you're traveling by bus, the tourist office keeps detailed schedules of the best connections to surrounding towns. It's open daily from 10am to 1pm and 3 to 7pm. In August, it's open daily 10am to 7pm.
