The Domain NORTHSIDE likes to bill itself as an alternate entertainment hub to downtown Austin. That’s seriously stretching it, but the stylish Archer proves that you don’t have to feel like a dweeb for staying at a mall. The high-ceilinged lobby is a fun mash-up of styles—a giant chandelier dripping sparkly crystal strings, a mural of wild horses, and leather chairs flanking a blazing fireplace (the cranked up air-conditioning makes sitting near it plausible). The lobby also hosts the Second Bar + Kitchen, a farm-to-table restaurant helmed by CIA-trained chef David Bull. It’s adjacent to an outdoor patio lounge, centered around a small pool with a Texas star on the bottom. Rooms are similarly tongue-in-cheek chic, with local art and touches of whimsy like his-and-her fuzzy slippers (if you don’t do pink lips, go for the black mustache ones). Lots of outlets and USB ports, plus a well-stocked mini-bar/caffeine center, make holing up and working here convenient for the many guests who have business on the nearby tech corridor (the Apple store is also a handy two doors down). Turn-down treats from local businesses like Bakery Lorraine are another nice touch.
