Longtime residents may remember this as downtown’s Children’s Museum, but it’s much bigger (40,000 square feet) and better in its new iteration as the Thinkery in the Mueller area of east central Austin. The focus is on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) learning through a variety of creative hands-on and interactive displays. The outdoor Backyard offers fresh air and some gentle activities. Age categories for exhibits (0-4 and 4-12) are not hard and fast, but the entire facility is turned over to toddlers and their handlers in special Baby Bloomers hours (for ages 0-3). There’s always something going on here—even an adult night. Check the website for listings.
