The oldest restaurant—90 years and counting—in the heart of Athens, today's Ideal retains its original magnificent Art Deco décor. It also has the best waiters in town (sometimes brisk, never brusque), the best wiener schnitzel, and both magnificent egg-lemon soup and soutzoukakia (cigar-shaped meatballs done with tomato sauce and spices in the Asia Minor style). No wonder some people plan visits to Athens around reservations here. This is one of the few of restaurants that are synonymous with Athens to many visitors (including me).
