An old-style Amsterdam cafe on the corner of the Nine Streets shopping enclave and overlooking the canal, this place positively bursts at the seams with local workers at lunchtime. Grab a table for an all-day breakfast or a Dutch snack of croquettes or bitterballen washed down with an excellent espresso. We can’t recommend the acidic house wine, however—try a local beer instead. All tables are shared; takeaway sandwiches piled high with salami and salad are also available.
