The spectacular, smooth planes of the EYE form one of the coolest buildings in Amsterdam (p. ###), with views through great glass windows over the ever-changing architectural horizons of the IJ waterway. The suntrap terrace of the bar-restaurant gets two stars for its location (take the free ferry from Buiksloterweg at Centraal Station; see p. ###), but one star for its gourmet offerings: insubstantial and predictably Dutch dishes are served during the day, offering aged Gouda cheeses, salads, soups, and sandwiches. The evening offerings are a little more imaginative, incorporating fish, steak, and vegetarian risottos, but flickering nighttime views across the harbor more than compensate.
