The first of the hip Sir Hotels chain, which has since expanded to cities including Berlin and Barcelona, this boutique property is nicely situated on the border of De Pijp and the Museum Quarter, within easy walking distance of the city’s Big Three museums and the bustling Albert Cuyp Market. It’s housed in a red-brick former diamond-cutting factory, somewhat unsettlingly around the corner from one of Amsterdam’s smaller Red Light districts.  The book-lined lobby lounge, outfitted with generous leather seats, cowhide poufs, and a gas fireplace, is a cozy spot for casual drinks and snacks, while the adjacent restaurant Izakaya is a neighborhood favorite serving Japanese-inspired small plates. Many of the rooms feature high ceilings and equally tall windows letting in plenty of light; opt for a suite if you want a bit more privacy than the standard open-plan bathrooms afford.
