Scandinavia, for a host of reasons, is typically not the cheapest place, no matter what the dollar and its foreign equivalents are doing. So when we saw this package to that part of the world, we jumped at the chance to alert our readers about it. European Destinations (tel. 877/267-2247; www.europeandestinations.com) has put together an independent, six-night, eight-day trip to Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, by air, in the fall: from roughly $1,145, with taxes. Airline fuel surcharges are not, however, included, and can vary.
The advertised trip is calculated on a November 25 departure, a mid-week departure, the day before Thanksgiving and typically not an expensive day to travel to Europe. It's based on New York City departures and includes international roundtrip airfare, hotel taxes, daily breakfast (if included in hotel stay), and two nights each in Oslo, Copenhagen, and Stockholm, with connecting flights to and from each destination. The nice part about this company's trips is that there's no guesswork about how fluid the booking can indeed be: you can see the dynamic fare history -- a six-night trip departing from Boston clocked in at $984 with taxes, for example. You can customize the trip and stay longer or shorter in any of the three destinations and spend more time exploring Oslo's many wonderful museums or rambling the cobblestone streets of Stockholm, or eating more Danish in Copenhagen. And the hotel list is deep enough in each city that you can choose something that best suits your itinerary and price range without too much difficulty -- depending, of course, on availability.
